It's Time For A Give-Away!

Linda Ledbetter of Studio L3 won my Earth, Wind & Fire Give-Away contest back in March.  And when I was looking for the Lost and Found Paper Stack back in April, Nicky Cresswell of The Altered Inker was the first to find a place for me to get it!

I've been wracking my brain all week trying to think of a good contest to have for this Give-Away.  This is what I came up with - a crossword puzzle.
Here's the deal . . .

Left click on the puzzle above - so you can get a larger view - the puzzle includes clues for arts & crafts and music-related words.

Leave a comment here on this post that you will be playing along.

When you have all of the correct answers, send me your answers via e-mail ONLY.

The first person to get all 21 correct answers wins.

Contest ends Sunday at midnight and the winner will be announced Monday.

That's it.  You don't have to become a Follower and you don't even have to have a Blog.

And what do you win, you ask?

The necklace I created for CCC #8 this week

Good luck!

Saturday's Mega Garage Sale, The Movies and Rita Coolidge

Remember THIS?  Well I got up early Saturday morning (nothing new there!) and headed down the street to the garage sales.  I probably should have taken the bus, because there was no place to park and I had to walk about three blocks.  Not that I didn't NEED to walk those three blocks, mind you.
I am here to report back that the 32nd annual Sunwood Street Faire garage sale was bigger than ever.  Glad I didn't take a cart or anything, because I could hardly walk down the sidewalk or even in the street without bumping into someone.  I read this morning that there were thousands of people there yesterday and it was the biggest garage sale to date.

I didn't take many photos.  I was too busy looking for "stuff".  However, when I came upon this house selling these handmade birdhouses, I had to pull the camera out.  Just HAD to show you these!
Wanna see some of the items I was able to pick up at the sales?  Sure you do!    I was on the hunt for anything vintage.  These are the items I found.
a 1908 Daily Reminder filled with a woman's daily writings (in Etsy Shop)
cabinet card (I can never pass these up!)
a black and white photo of the original Orange-Crush company
2 tapestry blocks that were once part of a small purse
some sheet music
an Underwood tin that housed typewriter ribbon at one time, an empty vintage box of Dennison's label reinforcements and a vintage BC headache medicine tin
This is some sort of old grater
see the grater thingie in the top?
a couple of Swift's Ice Cream labels/coasters
Rita Hayworth and Bing Crosby advertisements on the back of the ice cream labels/coasters
and this isn't vintage at all, but I thought it would be a
cool piece to display, paint, rust up or something

And this is just the sort of thing that if you blink an eye out here in California, you'll MISS!  I almost did! . . .
This is Rita Coolidge. She is a Grammy-award winning artist that will be performing at Pittsford Park this evening at 5:30pm as part of our city's free Summer Concert Series.  And where is Pittsford Park you ask?  Next to the elementary school my son attended.  Yep, right in the neighborhood!
For those of you too young to remember, Rita sang songs in the 70's and 80's like "One Fine Day", "Your Love Has Lifted me Higher" and "We're All Alone".   She is a very versatile artist in rock, pop, R&B, country, folk and more recently, jazz.
Looks like I won't be going to the movies today after all.  This performance in my own backyard is just too special for me to pass on today!

And what are YOU doing this wonderful Sunday?!

Stop the Presses . . . We Have a Winner!!

FIRST . . . Since there were only 4 of you that took on the challenge, I will be sending the 3 of you that did not win, a "parting gift".  You know, like on television :)  So Kate B, Sarah and Mary Ann - send me your snail mail addresses.  Well, not Mary Ann - I already have yours *smiles*.

Ooooooooh, I was smiling ear to ear to find some Earth, Wind and Fire fans like myself out here in Blogland!

Here are the correct song titles to the 10 clues I gave for the Give-Away:
1.  I'll Write a Song for You
2.  Imagination
3.  September
#4 stumped most of you!  The name of the song is Fair But So Uncool.  This song was on their 1974 album titled Open Our Eyes.

Pause my Music Playlist at the bottom of my blog and click on the album cover on this YouTube attachment:

5.  Love's Holiday
6.  In the Stone
7.  Jupiter
8.  Keep Your Head to the Sky
9.  Devotion
10.  Shining Star

Bonus Answer:  Vincennes, Indiana (Red Skelton's hometown).  Yep, I was at Vincennes University and the group New Birth was supposed to be performing in the gymnasium one weekend.  That afternoon, flyers were being handed out in the dorms and around campus that said New Birth (who sang one of my favorites - Wildflower), was not able to come, but Earth, Wind and Fire would be performing in their place.

Earth, Wind and Fire?!  We were all saying, "what and who the heck is a Earth, Wind and Fire????"  Well, that was in 1972 and I've been lovin' them ever since *smiles*.

Ok Sherry, get on with it . . . who was the WINNER?  The winner IS . . .

LINDA LEDBETTER of Studio L3

Congratulations Linda!!

IT'S GIVE-AWAY TIME AGAIN!

THIS GIVE-AWAY IS NOW CLOSED!

First things FIRST.  What will you win?  A $25.00 Gift Certificate for anything in my Etsy Shop INCLUDING the shipping and handling.  That goes for all of my international friends as well.  This Give-Away is open to EVERYONE!
Maurice White - 1970
I've been a HUGE fan of the music group Earth, Wind and Fire since 1971.  So for this Give-Away, I will give you 10 clues to some of their songs throughout the years.
Just leave a comment on this post letting me know that you're playing.  But do not . . . I repeat do NOT leave your answers here!  E-mail them to me.

The first person to answer all 10 correctly, WINS!  And if you don't get them all, I will e-mail you back and tell you how many you answered incorrectly.

You can then go back and try again!  Enter as many times as you'd like :)

Ok, ready?  Here are your clues.  Name the song titles . . .
#1:  It would be an honor if someone told me they'd write one of these for me!
#2:  Artists need to have one of these.  Bonus clue: This song title has the same name as an album recorded by Gladys Knight and the Pips that was released back in the 70's
#3:  When is Labor Day?
#4:  Things can be fair, but that doesn't mean it's all good
#5:  Can love take a vacation?

#6:  Not written on paper but somewhere else
#7:  Not Mercury, Venus or Saturn
#8:  Earth, Wind and Fire said to keep your head here
#9:  Feelings of ardent love; commitment to some purpose
#10: If you get 1 through 10 correct, you'll be one of these!
Bonus clue for an additional prize.  You must get 1 through 10 correct as well:  What CITY did I first see Earth, Wind and Fire live in concert?

This didn't look like the venue where I saw Earth Wind and Fire
in the early 70's, but this is where the concerts are held today in this city in Indiana.

You have until Thursday, March 25th at midnight to e-mail me your answers.  Good luck!

Super Bowl 44 and Some Flashbacks

As a lot of you know, I am a California transplant from Indianapolis, Indiana.  And although I have lived in Southern California since March of 1975, I have remained a true fan of any sport that comes out of Naptown.  Basketball was always big, and although when I lived there we didn't have a pro football team, I remember going to many many MANY high school football games.

You can only imagine how happy I am that my Indianapolis Colts are back to win another Super Bowl!

Since 1998, the Colts have become the first in league history to win 12 games or more in five consecutive seasons - extending this record to seven after the 2009 season.

The Colts came to Indy in 1984 - 9 years after I had moved to the West Coast.

More stuff . . .

The Colts have been in three Super Bowls - two while the team was in Baltimore (Super Bowl III when the New York Jets beat the Baltimore Colts 16 to 7 and Super Bowl V when the Baltimore Colts beat the Dallas Cowboys 16 to 13) and one since they have been in Indianapolis - Super Bowl XLI where the Colts beat up on the Chicago Bears 29 to 17 on February 4, 2007.

This year The Who will be performing at halftime . . .

Want to purchase some advertising space on television during the SuperBowl?  Well, 30 seconds of advertising time during the 2010 telecast is expected to be around 3.01 million dollars.

And speaking of commercials, for the past 20 years the most famous commercial has been the "I'm going to Disney World!" ad.

In 1993, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird played a game of Horse for a McDonald's Big Mac and fries. The game was made more interesting due to the increasingly complex set of obstacles that were set up for both players.

And in 1973, the first famous Super Bowl commercial was for Noxzema and featured legendary New York Jets Quarterback Joe Namath.  Click on link to see commercial.

And what football fan can forget The Super Bowl Shuffle by the Chicago Bears back in 1985?    Starring Jim McMahon, Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, Refrigerator Perry and crew.  Click HERE to view this vintage video.

The Budweiser Frogs . . . Wazzzup . . . Michael Jackson 1993 Super Bowl 27 . . . 2004 Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson . . . U2's 2002 9/11 Tribute . . . and so many more.  Don't you think that the half-time shows and commercials are almost as good as the game sometimes?  Do  you have any favorites?

Sade - Pronounced with just the SLIGHTEST hint of the 'r': Sha(r)-day

I've been a fan of Sade's since 1985.  Smooth Operator, Never as Good as the First Time, The Sweetest Taboo, Is it a Crime, Stronger Than Pride, and the list goes on!

It's been 10 years since we've heard anything from Sade!  You can go HERE to listen to the title track Soldier of Love off her new album that will be released February 8th (the day before my birthday - hint hint!)
