Anne Brown, (March 13) a pure soprano who literally put the Bess in “Porgy and Bess”






Bea Arthur (April 26) Emmy award winning actress/comedienne, star of Maude and Golden Girls tv shows


Chuck Daly (May 9) an American basketball head coach that led the Detroit Pistons to consecutive NBA Championships in 1989 and 1990 and the Dream Team to the men's basketball gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.


Wayman Tisdale (May 15) was a three-time All-American at Oklahoma in the mid-80's before playing 12 years in the  NBA and then later becoming an accomplished jazz musician.  Died at the age of 44.

Walter Cronkite (July 17) an American broadcast journalist often cited as "the most trusted man in America"


E. Lynn Harris (July 23), literary pioneer who introduced millions of readers to the "invisible life".  E. Lynn was 54 years old when he died while on a business trip in Los Angeles.  (I miss you E. Lynn)

Gidget The Taco Bell Dog (July 22) famous for his tagline "Yo quiero Taco Bell" was used in a number of television and movie spots, died of a stroke this year.



Naomi Sims (August 1), one of the world's first Black supermodels.   She became an icon of the "Black is Beautiful" movement when she appeared on the cover of Ladies' Home Journal in November 1968.



Les Paul (August 13) inventor, musician and song writer credited with inventing the electric guitar which made rock music possible


Patrick Swayze  (September 14) 


Alaina Reed Hall (December 17) actress best known for her role as Olivia (Gordon's younger sister on Sesame Street) and Rose Lee Holloway on the sitcom 227.
