Fabric Collaged Composition Book

Mixed Media Monday's theme this week is "Stitches". I machine-stitched the pieces for the composition book, so I entered the challenge.

Next week's challenge is "time of day". You pick an image or a color scheme that evokes a particular time of day to you and develop a piece around it. Nothing like a good challenge to keep those creative juices flowing!
I finished my first fabric collage and decided along the way to use it to alter one of those 9 3/4" x 7 1/2" Composition notebooks.

Materials used: coffee-stained fabrics and lace, a piece of manchild's well-worn jeans on the front and back, pieces of vintage hook & eye cards nestled between the lace and jean material, 3 vintage buttons sewn on, and an old rusty safety pin holding strips of lace and fabric in the upper corner.

The image of the girl is one of my favorite rubberstamps. I stamped the image, scanned it, changed the color to a blue to match the jean material, printed it out on transfer paper and ironed it onto the blue and white ticking fabric. I wrote "Take Note" with a permanent ink pen on another piece of fabric after sewing it to all of the layers.

That's it for show & tell for today. Too hot to go out, so I've still got the sewing machine out and playing around with fabric. This is FUN!

There's a saying "to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear"...and that is certainly what you have done with the ordinary composition notebook. Your work is beautiful, and I enjoyed the description of the process! Thanks.
