We Have a Winner! and a Tutorial

Mary Ann from A Very Mary Design is CORRECT . . . CONNIE from Cetta Cheese is THE WINNER!

Last month or maybe it was a couple of months ago, I saw these cardboard bangles for sale on Suze Weinberg's website and thought - HEY, I've got some heavy cardboard tubes that I store my parent sheets of paper in that I could cut up!

Quite often, I run things past Mary Ann, and this time was no exception. I e-mailed Very Mary and shared what I had in mind.

I didn't have a saw, so Mary Ann suggested I ask a neighbor to cut the tubes for me. She said if that didn't work out for me, that I could probably go to the hardware store and have one of the workers there cut them up.

Well, other things came up (ahhh, yeah, that always happens!), and my little project was put on the back burner. Then earlier this week I watched a show called Jewelry Making on DIY, and low and behold, there was Sandi Reinke on the show making bracelets from, what else? Cardboard tubes! Well, that's all that was needed to set me in motion.

When I got home from work on Friday, I grabbed a couple of short ribbon tubes I confiscated from the trash can at The Fabric Barn on one of my many trips to their store. I looked around the apartment to try to find something that would cut through these little boogers. And then I had an Oprah "AH HA!" moment. I went to the kitchen and found my electric knife.

these didn't work out. Too thick! Note to self: ask neighbor or go to Home Depot next week.

So I got one of my parent sheet paper tubes, grabbed the electric knife, (which worked to a point) then I grabbed a steak knife and finished them off.

Ok, so once I had the bracelet blanks cut, I sanded the edges a little.

I painted on some gesso and let that dry. Sandi (on the DIY show) used some dimensional stuff, but I figured I could build up my layers with paper. (Can't afford to go out and buy more "stuff" right now)

Then I saturated the bracelet blanks with some of this - inside and out

I cut some papers I had, and applied them to the saturated blanks. I put them outside on the patio overnight to dry and about 3am I applied DG3. Here's the outcome . . .

More are in the making, will be further embellished, and then out into Etsy Land they go!

Connie, let me know which one you would like and it will be on it's way to Kauai, Hawaii next week! :)

Thanks for the tutorial, I'm not sure if I can get the "laminate" stuff. I have been wanting to try some bracelet collage for a long time! So it was great to find this - thanks again.
