Play Date Last Sunday and Update on BC Journey

Hi Blogger Buddies!  It's been so long (since I returned from the RSC!) since I blogged last, so I will cut to the chase and share my play date I had last Sunday at my friend's home.

Sometimes we call these play dates "Make-n-Steak" because Linda's husband, Bob will bbq steaks for us later in the evening after Linda and I share techniques we've learned either on our own, on-line or at workshops.

First things first . . .
I brought along supplies and some of my pieces to show Linda what I learned in Teesha Moore's workshops . . .

I've been wanting to do some etching on copper and Linda has already done several jewelry pieces using the technique, so when I told her I recently got these really cool book cover rubber stamps by Tim Holtz I wanted to try, she told me to bring them.

Here is my book cover in the making.  Stamped and coming out of it's etching bath after about an hour . . .
I thought Alcohol Inks would be cool to color the cover and give it a patina, old world look.  I used Lettuce, Butterscotch, Bottle, Caramel, Citrus . . .
This is what I'm going to use (I think) as the back cover.  Here's how it looks out of the etching bath with no color added yet.  Oops - that's the flash from my cell phone in the lower right hand corner . . .
I really like etching and will definitely be buying the supplies to do some more at home!

Snack time . . .
Show and Tell time.  Some of Bob's latest pieces . . .

Then it was play time with Marlena "Marley" . . .
after a swim in the pool . . .
Linda finished up her piece the next day and colored what was a black and white head piece.  I just LOVE how it all turned out! . . .

And this is mine . . .
It's always such a fun, relaxing day at The Bucci's.  Next time we get together we're going to do shrink art *smiles*.

BC update:  I had reconstruction surgery June 27th.  Still healing.  I think I may have done a little too much a little too soon (the workshops and the rubber stamp convention) or maybe things just take longer to heal than I want them to?  I have seen the doctor twice since surgery and will go back on August 18th to discuss the next steps.  I'm feeling well and have returned to work.  And obviously I'm not going to let the fun stop! *smiles*

Fears and Dreams

12" x 6" collage titled "Fears and Dreaams" on recycled heavy mattboard . . .

Post Script on "my other journey":  Had my second "pump" for the tissue expansion procedure last past Thursday.  A little more discomfort this time around but I'm hanging in there.  Going back this Thursday for pump #3.  Shouldn't be too long now! :)

I'm Outta Here!

One last hurrah before heading back to "the day job" on Monday.  Yep, I'm healed enough physically to go back to work now, but before I do, I'm outta here for a few days!

I'm meeting my cousins in Las Vegas  for a few days of fun.

I'm not going to "push it" and drive myself - I'm taking (for the first time) the Lux Bus America and leave the driving to someone else.

One night there's an Old School Party and another night we'll be groovin' at a Charlie Wilson (formerly of The Gap Band) concert . . .
I've already laid the law down to teenage manchild while I'm away.  He either followed my rules when I went on the TH cruise last year, or at least he sure cleaned up and/or covered up well enough to convince me he did.  LOL

But for ME?  Well, you know the saying . . . "What HAPPENS in Vegas . . . STAYS in Vegas"  See you when I get back! *smiles*

PS  Don't forget the OCAM Holiday Affaire on Friday and Saturday!  See post HERE!

Week No. 19 - Extreme Masking and Breast Cancer Stuff

First, in case you hadn't heard, I was the winner of Week No. 17 over at the All Things Tim yahoo group!  Yep, the moderator "mom" Gloria chose my necklace as the winning entry.  Now how cool is THAT?!  I was just tickled when I read that I had won for something that I am so obsessed with making *smiles*.
Ok, so on to CCC #19.  If you would like to play along, turn to page 61 in your Compendium of Curiosities book.  And click HERE to get over to Studio L3 for more information on the challenge.  Just remember that you are NOT to post the technique instructions on your blog ok?

What you ARE encouraged to do is include a link to Tim's website where your followers, blog lurkers, etc. can purchase one of his autographed books of their very OWN!

Here's my entry for this week's challenge:
I used the following colors of Distress Inks:  Dusty Concord, Forest Moss, Bundled Sage, Crushed Olive, Faded Jeans, Broken China and Stormy Sky.
And this was not part of the technique, but I also added a thick layer of Glossy Accents to my bird (it's still drying) to give the tag dimension . . .

Update on Breast cancer stuff:
Bone density test Tuesday.
Wednesday I'm going to my first support group meeting. Didn't think I would need a support group, but what did I know?!

And I just found out that my God Child's mother (who is also one of my bff's) has breast cancer - again!  Adrie had breast cancer years ago when she was living here in the States.  She is "back home" in Chalfont St. Peters in the U.K. now.  Well, cancer has hit the remaining breast and she just had surgery this past week and is now home recovering.  I tell you, this breast cancer thing is just a bitch isn't it?! *urrrrgh*

The rain is back in Southern California.  It's nice to be inside looking out :)  Have an art-filled day today!

Got Photos? You BET!

Ok, let's start with Friday.  Everything was going "as planned", but then the karaoke went a little longer than expected, so I'm sad to report that I didn't make it to the CrescenDoh event later that night (darn it!)

But then there was Saturday.  I met up with my friends Linda and Martha around 11:30am at Glitterfest.  I tried to take as many photos as I could, but there was just sooooo much to see and touch and well you'll see what I mean . . .
This was just ONE of the crowded isles! . . .
And here are some artist faces you may recognize . . .
My friend, Bridgette Antonelli of Bella Luna Arts
Rita Reade - Mammabellarte and (on the right)
I didn't get photos of these lovely ladies, but it was so nice to see and or meet and talk with ALL of them!
Christie Repasy - nice to see you again!  Your work is as beautiful as ever.
Christine Saqui - just as sweet as I remembered the first time I met her!
Robin Dudley-Howes - FINALLY got to meet her in person.  Nice meeting you Robin!  Hope to see you again soon . . . maybe at Piecemakers??? :)
Stacey Steimle - ALWAYS good to see Stacey!
And of course Kerri Judd as well as Danyel Montecinos - the authors of this book.  Say what?  You don't own this book yet?
And there were so many other artists there selling their fab-u-lous works of art.  I'm telling you - if you missed this event and you were in town . . . I'm just sayin'!

So after Glitterfest, we (Linda, Martha and I) went to Mollywood Garden Design - a really cool place with some really unique treasures!
After Molly Wood Garden's, we went back to Linda's for a "Girl's Night".  Linda's hubby was out of town, so it was just us girls last night - including Marlena, aka Marley . . .
We started off with hors d'oeuvres - artichokes with a wasabi mayonnaise on the side, a spicy, sweet corn relish, tortilla chips, cheese, and salami. . .
and of course, the wine.  Click on the photo above to read the cocktail napkin :) . . .
While sitting out on the patio, we could hear laughter coming from one of the neighbor's houses and decided to "crash the party".  I loved EVERYTHING about this house - inside and out, but I  just met "the neighbor", so I just took a few photos once we were outside.  Click on the photos to get a better look . . .
Wall art
GORGEOUS Tree with other plants hanging from it
Well-manicured palm
Another GORGEOUS piece of rusty-patina wall art
Collection of chimes, bells and glass balls
After the tour of oohs and aahs, we walked back to Linda's and had a fabulous dinner that Linda had prepared for us . . .
And of course we had to have dessert (I picked this up at French's Bakery) . . .
After we dined . . .
I won't tell you what time we retired for the evening, but let's just say that the ABC World News wasn't on television yet :)
This morning we got up and had coffee and left-over dessert for breakfast and then headed over to Old Town Tustin to the Vintage Flea Market and Whimzy.  Here are a few photos I snapped . . .
When I saw this I thought - let sleeping dolls lie! *hee hee*
I love these old windows hanging from the ceiling
After Whimzy, we stopped over at The Vintage Lady to see what Cathy had new in the store and then walked across the street and had lunch at Quinn's.

I'm back home now, doing my laundry, dusting, vacuuming, ironing . . . *sigh* and getting ready for the week ahead at "the day job".  Ooooooh but what a wonderful weekend I had!  How about YOURS?
