ATC Undertaking

I've been reading on the Artful Voyage Yahoo Group for the October Tim Holtz/Wendy Vecchi cruise, that several of the art "cruisers" are planning an artist trading card get-2-gether the night before the cruise.

I got all excited when I read about the swap and thought WOW, just think, I could possibly come back home from the cruise with 100-175 pieces of art from all over the world!

So I got busy the other day and started making some backgrounds. These heavy recycled matboards that I cut to size are covered with decorative paper and cardstock . . .

I found a 1953 Sears Catalog and started cutting out Sears models. Here are some I have started collaging on some subtle graffiti paper backgrounds . . .

I used some of my acrylic & watercolored serendipity paper towels for these backgrounds . . .
Got lucky with THESE papers! I love the way the Sears girls look on them . . .
I painted the backgrounds for these with acrylic paints . . . Blues and Reds . . .
more paper, acrylic paints and some vintage book pages . . .

Thought this Blue Chip Stamp paper was just perfect for the retro look I'm going for! . . .

A few more of the ladies. Gold paint pen used on the borders . . .

I thought it would be cool to put some sayings on the cards that related to the art cruise or just some funny or witty sayings that I thought went with the photos. Here are a couple that I have completed . . .

Because I live close enough and don't need to stay at the hotel the night before, and Lezlei will be flying in from Texas and staying with me before we sail, we won't be attending the swap at the hotel the night before. I guess we'll have to do our swapping onboard.

Hey, Lezlei are you making atc's to swap too?

Can't tell you what I was thinking when I took on this undertaking, but I can tell you what I'm thinking NOW. I'm thinking that I had better get off this blog and get back to work if I'm going to make close to 200 of these! I've only COMPLETED TWO!

Well, Sherry, it looks like we are working on the same thing today! I had to take a break from cutting and do a little blog reading.
Your ATCs are so cute...love the images from the catalogue and your little quips are just perfect...can you come up with about 150 of them!!!

200?! *bows* You are amazing! I once did an ATC swap for a dozen and found myself struggling for concepts. Make sure you take a photo of the completed works!

Well, girl, you are two ahead of me! I have so much going on this summer, I think I'll just have to spend the whole month of September on the cruise swaps. At least you have a concept. And a great one at that.
I have nada!

Sherry, they are going to be marvelous! Don't worry, you are well on your way to 200 by doing the assembly line process.

OMG what great ATC's those are!!
Not sure that I will be there the night before either as I will be staying with a friend. It is nice to know that I will be able to trade at least one!

Sherry, your ATCs look great! I must have missed something. I was so busy admiring your Sears models and the backgrounds that I thought you had completed them! Hey, I love your ideas though. Very very cool! Make sure to tell your fellow shipmates that you'll be bringing some ATCs aboard for trading so that they'll keep one aside for you. We traded on board the night we sailed away from the port. Lucky girl!

Wow You certainly must have taken an energy pill. The only painting I've been doing is staining our log home in 90 plus degree weather. I love your sears girls. I too thought they were all done. You must show the finished product. A cruise sounds so inviting right about now. Smiles, Sharon

Maybe we should consider staying at the hotel the night before and joining in on the festivities (we don't have to decide today)...think about it.
