Saturday, June 21, 2008 (long post)

So here's how the day started . . .

Got up bright and early, showered, dressed, and headed out the door at 7:10am. Didn't even stop for coffee.

Drove to Costa Mesa and stopped at a few garage sales and one estate sale on the way to Paris to the Moon. Didn't find anything good, so I didn't spend a dime.

Headed over to Paris to the Moon around 8:00, and I could see when I parked that there were already people shopping out in the front!

Stopped by one of the vendors that was there at the last Flea Market and picked up some German Scrap, a few vintage German Dresden gold swallows, and some really nice vintage gift wrapping paper.

Some of the vendors weren't even set up yet, and people were digging through their boxes and asking "how much is this? and how much is that?". I think it must have already been 90 degrees out - and very humid. The vendors were a little irritable as well as some of the shoppers. The flea market wasn't getting off to a very good start. Nobody was being very polite or friendly. As a matter of fact, some people were just down right rude. I guess none of the attendees grew up in Indiana like I did, where the summers are ALWAYS hot and humid.

The store - Paris to the Moon was open, so I stepped inside to see what was new. Well, one good thing that was going on inside was the airconditioner. LOL People were much more friendly in there! (smiles)

This doll holding miniature purses was a new addition since the last time I was in . . .

and these sweet little fairies under the trees . . .

and I always love looking in the Paris corner . . .

And remember "Chip the Wonder Squirrel" from a couple of posts ago when I wrote about this event? Well, he really does exist. Here he is climbing up the cage they have him in inside the store . . .

Went back outside and did the walk through one more time before heading back home. Picked up a couple of pieces of lace remnants and found some large rose fabric remnants. That was it. Nothing to really write home about - just blog about (hee hee). Stopped and had a quick breakfast.

But WAIT - there's MORE! . . . On my way home, when I exited at Lake Forest, I decided to stop at Refashioned by Sara in Laguna Hills. When I pulled up to the front of the store, I could see all of these people inside shopping and men carrying out large tables, chairs, baker's racks, etageres, and MORE! What the heck was going on that I didn't know about sooner than this? Turns out that the store was closing and they were having a 75% off everything sale. Sheeesh, Sara just had her grand opening on March 15th.

I wonder what the heck happened? I didn't have time to ask, because I had to get in there and start shopping! So how did I do - you ask? Well, let's just say that I won't be going to the Flea Market at Vintage Whimzy's Sunday morning (no smiles). I'm broke! Can't spend another dime. Nothing - nada - nil - zero.

But that didn't stop me from stopping at Material Possessions and just *looking* and *touching* fabric. I don't quilt, but Lezlei told me that this is the best quilt shop she had ever been to in Southern California. All I know is that they have a beautiful store. Here are a few snapshots I took just inside the front door . . .

Headed home after this last stop. THE END

I too had planned to go to Paris to The Moon, but wasn't completely convinced I should. Once I felt the temp outside, that made my decision for me, too hot!! Glad you found some good stuff at one of your stops, sometimes it's the unplanned venture that turns out the best.

Hi Dede! I think Saturday was the hottest and most humid day we've had so far. I only went out as far as my patio today, but it didn't seem as hot. How true = the unplanned venture!!

BUT WHAT DID YOU GET AT THE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE? (she yelled expectantly)

Hi Mary Ann!

I got these sweet gallery petite framed sayings with easel backs, Michal Negrin journals, an oil painting of an old Olivetti typewriter I had been eyeing since March, but was way too much $$ at the full price, and some decorative pillows.

I bought quite a few of the gallery petites and Michal Negrin journals, so I put some in my etsy shop to spread the savings!
