Last Saturday when I was at Paris Underground (the back store behind Paris to the Moon), I saw the framed wreath shown in the photo below.

You can click on the photo to get a closer look.

What do you think this is ?????

The first person to post the correct answer will receive a brand new Tim Holtz Junk Bag.

AND, if you can give a little history along with your correct answer, I'll fill up that Junk Bag with artsy JUNK for you to use (smiles)

hm after a first look I thought pipecleaners.... my second guess after looking close is crocheted chain-stitches around or with wired fibers - I don´t know if there´s a special word for it in English.
Greetings ! sabine

Wow, another good try, but no, it's not Klosterarbeiten. However, that's nice work as WELL!

Is it hair? The Victorians used to braid hair into decorative pieces.

Indeed, that's a very unusual piece. Maybe it's an old handmade collar?

I wanted to add to my previous comment. I think it's human hair made into a mourning wreath.

I think Donnell is right with her guess. Back in the 18th and 19th century such wreaths were made from hair of the deceased in memory. The wreaths had a horseshoe shape and the cut showed heavenward. Whenever another person died, some hair was added. Wire was used to get the hair into those flower shapes.
